Camp-n-Fish, Urunga

I reached the town of Urunga in the early afternoon and after checking into Urunga Caravan Park and setting up my tent and Gazebo, I settled down in my comfy camp chair and had my first beer of the day. The Caravan Park is right next to the Pub and the URUNGA BOARDWALK. Considered one of the best boardwalks on the east coast, the one-kilometre Urunga Boardwalk starts in town, before following the Kalang River to the junction of the Bellinger River and continuing onto the ocean.

Well….. Sunday evening about 5:30pm in the dark, Paul and Shaq and Bernie turned up at my campsite, having travelled from Sydney. Paul and Shaq dumped Bernie and headed back to their nice warm dry cabin to unpack.

Bernie has just bought this tent and did not have a clue as to how to erect it. Luckily he has a big brother who is a camping guru. 🏕️ There we were in the dark and rain fumbling with poles and fly’s and pegs and trying to work out this 🤬 tent. Finally we put it together, sorta and then pumped up his humongous air bed. Campsite chores finished we then headed over to the pub for a well earned beer, where we caught up with Paul and Shaq just finishing their meal.

Monday morning after coffee and bacon and sausages and eggs cooked at the campsite Bernie has headed up the boardwalk to do some fishing, because Paul drove around Urunga last night to buy Bernard some 🤬 pilchards to stop him winging because Ray would not do it. Paul and Shaq also headed out along the boardwalk to fish and caught a small flathead of which the size was greatly exaggerated using trick photography. Bernie lost all his pilchards and caught naught.

Tuesday:………Bernie bought some frozen squid. Stating High tide was at 5pm today and I’ll be back along the boardwalk.

Paul and Shaq decided to go for a drive to Iluka to try there luck off the wall for some big stuff.

They were successful the first day at Iluka so decided to give it another go the next day, after stopping in at Mo Tackle in Coffs Harbour and buying out the store. Then a quick pic at the Big Banana.

I talked Bernie into camping and not fishing because he was having no luck out along the wall. So we had a very relaxing couple of days just chilling out.

Back at Iluka many pictures started to come through on our chat line, with massive fish being caught and grins galore from our well travelled fishermen.

We had a great four days at beautiful Urunga/Iluka with some fishermen more successful than others. 🎣

Perfect weather and very relaxing for some.

Paul and Shaq are definitely the winners of the Urunga/Iluka Camp-n-Fish.
